Learn how to add alt text to your images — directly on the asset in the Media Library, or per post in the composer.

Alt text lets you add a description to your images, making posts more accessible to visually impaired users. Keep it brief and descriptive.
Alt text is supported for Facebook, Instagram*, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and Pinterest posts.
*For Instagram, alt text is available for pages linked through Facebook. Pages linked directly through Instagram do not support this option.
You can read more here about the different ways to connect your Instagram accounts.
There are two ways to add alt text: centrally on the media asset itself (so it auto-fills every post that uses it), or individually per post in the composer.
Set alt text in the Media Library
Alt text now lives on the media asset itself. Set it once in the Media Library and it automatically fills in for any post that uses that image — no need to re-type it every time.
- Open the Media Library in your workspace.
- Click on an image to open the preview (lightbox).
- In the sidebar, find the Alt text field and enter your description — or click Generate with AI to create one automatically.
- Save — the alt text is now attached to the asset.
If the field already has text, you'll see Rewrite with AI instead; click it to get an improved version. You can then Apply the suggestion, Retry for a new one, or Discard to keep the original.
Good to know: When you use this image in a new post, the alt text auto-fills. If a post already has its own alt text, the asset-level text won't overwrite it.
Add alt text in the composer
You can also add or edit alt text directly on a post. When creating a post in Planable, after adding an image, hover over it to find the Alt text option:
After saving, you'll find the alt text indicator in the bottom left corner of the image. Hover to view the text and click to edit or remove it. The Generate with AI and Rewrite with AI options are available here too.
Per-platform overrides
If a specific platform needs different alt text (for example, a shorter description for X), you can override the default per platform in the composer as long as "Sync" is disabled. The override applies only to that platform; other platforms keep the original text.
💡 Pro tip: Set alt text on assets in the Media Library first, then let it auto-fill across posts. Use per-platform overrides only when a channel needs a different description.
