Learn how to hand over ownership of a workspace or of your whole company account, and what changes for the previous owner.

→ Change the owner of a company
→ Switched ownership by mistake?
Planable has two levels of ownership. The workspace owner is the owner of one specific workspace. The company owner is the owner of the entire company account, including every workspace inside it. By default, the person who created the workspace or the company is its owner.
Good to know: Changing ownership is irreversible. Once you confirm, only the new owner can transfer ownership again.
Change the owner of a workspace
*Only the current workspace owner or the company owner can change the owner of a workspace.
- Open the Workspace settings of the workspace you want to transfer.
- Go to Team & clients.
- Find the person you want to make owner and click the three dots next to their name.
- Select Set as workspace owner.
- Confirm by clicking Yes, switch ownership.
What changes after the switch
- The new owner gets the Owner role, plus Administrator rights in that workspace.
- The previous owner stays in the workspace as an Administrator and keeps their other permissions.
- Only that one workspace is affected. Ownership of the company and of other workspaces stays the same.
💡 Pro tip: The new owner needs to be a member of the workspace first. If they're not there yet, invite them to the workspace and then set them as owner.
Change the owner of a company
*Only the current company owner can transfer company ownership. Company ownership can't be transferred while the company has an outstanding invoice. Pay the invoice first, then try again.
Transfer company ownership when the person who manages the account (and its billing) is changing, for example when the original owner leaves your team.
- From the main dashboard, click the company name and select Manage members. You can also open your company page and go to Members in the sidebar.
- Find the person you want to make owner and click the three dots next to their name.
- Select Set as company owner.
- Confirm by clicking Yes, switch ownership.
What changes after the switch
- The new owner becomes the company owner, with billing access.
- The new owner gets full access to every workspace in the company. If they weren't a member of a workspace yet, they're added to it automatically.
- Any workspaces the previous owner owned are transferred to the new owner.
- The previous owner stays in the company as an Administrator and keeps billing access. They keep their access to workspaces, without owner rights.
💡 Pro tip: If you only need someone to manage a single client or brand, change the workspace owner instead. Transferring company ownership affects the whole account, including billing. Read more about company accounts and user permissions.
Switched ownership by mistake?
You can't undo an ownership change yourself. Ask the new owner to transfer ownership back to you, or reach out to support@planable.io, and we'll help you sort it out.
