What is Social listening
Social listening is a dedicated section in Planable that scans public posts across X (Twitter), YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and websites for mentions of your brand and any topics you choose to track. It automatically classifies each mention by sentiment — positive, neutral, or negative — and presents everything in one feed alongside engagement metrics, trend charts, and exportable reports.
Think of it as your always-on brand radar: it picks up conversations, measures sentiment, and gives you the data to act fast.
Social listening is an add-on, enabled per workspace. Once a workspace has it, everyone with access to that workspace can use it — no extra per-seat cost. See Plans & pricing for how to start a trial or buy it.
Set up brand monitoring
Your brand keyword is the foundation of Social listening. It's the term Planable scans for across all supported platforms on a rolling 24-hour cycle.
- Click Social listening in the left sidebar. You'll land on the Brand tab.
- Type your brand name into the input field and press Enter.
- Planable begins scanning platforms in the background immediately. A loading banner shows progress — results populate automatically as they come in.
Good to know: Each workspace supports one brand keyword. The initial scan typically takes a few minutes. No need to refresh, results appear automatically as they arrive.
Track topics and competitors
In addition to your brand, you can monitor up to 3 topic keywords and 3 competitors per workspace. Useful for tracking campaigns, competitor mentions, industry trends, or any conversation that matters to your team.
Topics and competitors each have their own tab inside Social listening and work the same way: add a keyword, and Planable scans all supported platforms for public mentions of it.
You get the same dashboard for both: mention and engagement cards, sentiment breakdown, mention volume chart, and a scrollable mention feed. You can compare how often competitors or specific topics are talked about, what the sentiment looks like, and which posts are driving the conversation.
Add a topic
- Switch to the Topic tab inside Social listening.
- Type a keyword and press Enter to add it.
- Repeat for up to 3 topics. Each one is scanned across all supported platforms.
Add a competitor
- Switch to the Competitors tab inside Social listening.
- Type a competitor name and press Enter to add it.
- Repeat for up to 3 competitors. Each one is scanned across all supported platforms, just like a topic keyword.
Good to know: Topic and competitor keywords re-sync every 7 days (versus 24 hours for the brand keyword). The data and filtering options work exactly the same as on the Brand tab.
Explore your results
Once data is ready, the Brand (or Topics) tab gives you a full picture of your mention activity:
- Mention & engagement cards — at-a-glance totals with period-over-period comparisons (e.g., +12% mentions vs. the previous period).
- Sentiment breakdown — the ratio of positive, neutral, and negative mentions across all results. Each mention is classified automatically by AI.
- Mention volume chart — a visual timeline of activity over your selected date range, which you can break down by total volume or sentiment.
- Mention feed — a scrollable list of individual posts, each showing the platform, engagement numbers, and sentiment label. Sort by engagement or recency. Each mention card shows a media preview when the original post contains an image or video, displayed at full aspect ratio.
Filter & refine
Use the filter controls to zero in on the data that matters most:
-
Date range — choose a 7-day, 14-day, or 30-day window to zoom in on a campaign or pull back for trend analysis.
-
Channel filter — isolate mentions from a specific platform (X, YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and websites), or view them all at once.
-
Sorting mentions – by relevance, engagement, or how recent they are
-
Sentiment filter — focus on negative feedback, positive buzz, or neutral mentions
Export your data
Click the CSV export button to download your Social listening data. You can export either:
- Aggregated metrics — totals and trends for use in reports or decks.
-
Full mention list — every individual post with platform, engagement, and sentiment, ready for deeper analysis.
Curate your feed
Not every mention is worth keeping, and the sentiment label is not always the one you would have picked. Two controls let you shape the feed into something your team can act on.
Correct a mention's sentiment
Sentiment is assigned automatically, and it can get things wrong — sarcasm, industry jargon and mixed messages are the usual culprits. Open the sentiment tag on any mention card and pick the label you think fits.
Good to know: A correction feeds straight into the sentiment breakdown and the by-sentiment chart, so your totals reflect the change.
Hide a mention
Spam, a coincidental name match, an unrelated conversation — hover the mention card and hide it to take it out of your feed. An undo option appears straight after, in case you hid the wrong one.
Hidden mentions are not deleted. Switch the mentions view to see everything you have hidden, and restore anything that should not have gone.
Exclude a noisy source
Sometimes a particular account or domain keeps showing up in your feed without adding value — a news aggregator that re-posts everything, a bot, or a competitor's corporate handle. Instead of hiding their mentions one by one, you can exclude the entire source.
Open any mention card from the source you want to exclude, click the three-dot menu, and select Exclude source. The source type depends on the platform:
- X — excludes the handle (e.g. @spambot)
- YouTube — excludes the channel
- Reddit — excludes the user
- Websites — excludes the domain
A confirmation prompt shows exactly what will be excluded. You can undo immediately if you change your mind.
Good to know: Exclusions are scoped to the workspace and apply to the keyword where you triggered them — they do not carry over to other keywords or workspaces. Excluded mentions disappear from the feed and from CSV exports, but they are still counted in the charts and aggregated metrics.
To review or restore excluded sources, go to Social listening → ⚙ → Excluded sources. The list shows every source you have excluded, and you can Restore any of them to bring their mentions back into the feed. Each keyword supports up to 100 excluded sources.
Alerts
Stay on top of mention spikes and sentiment shifts without checking the feed manually. Social listening alerts notify you when something happens that needs your attention.
Set up an alert
- Open the Alerts tab inside Social listening.
- Click + New alert.
-
Configure the alert — give it a name, choose which platforms to monitor, set the condition that should trigger it (for example, over 45 mentions per day or over 20% negative per day), and where you should get notified.
Manage and turn off alerts
The Alerts tab lists every alert you have created, showing the platform scope, trigger condition, and when it last fired. Use the Active toggle to pause or resume any alert, or click the three-dot menu to edit or delete it.
Good to know: Alerts are also available in your Notifications settings — the same place where you manage other Planable notifications.
What Social listening does not cover
Worth knowing up front, so the feed matches what you expect:
- Public posts only. Private accounts, direct messages and anything behind a login are not collected.
- It is not a live stream. The feed shows the last completed sync — every 24 hours for your brand keyword, every 7 days for topics.
- Web mentions carry less detail. Articles, blogs and forum posts from the open web have no public engagement counts, so they sort last when you sort by engagement, and they show the site domain instead of an author.
- Replying happens on the platform. Mentions link out to the original post — there is no reply or translation step inside Social listening.
Plans & pricing
Social listening is an add-on to any paid Planable plan, enabled per workspace and billed separately from your subscription:
- $99 per workspace/month
- $990 per workspace/year
Each workspace includes 1 brand keyword, 3 topic keywords, and 3 competitors.
Start with a 30-day free trial or pay upfront. At the end of the trial the add-on converts to a paid subscription for each workspace you enabled it on. You can cancel from Billing at any time.
Where to start it
- From the sidebar. Click Social listening. If the workspace does not have the add-on, you land on a page where you can start the trial, pick which workspaces to enable, and confirm.
- At checkout. Choosing or switching a plan? Social listening appears on the checkout summary alongside Analytics, Social Inbox and Extra posts — add it in the same session.
- From Billing. Go to Company settings → Billing → Add-ons to start a trial or buy for specific workspaces, check remaining trial days, and manage or cancel.
Good to know: On the Free plan, Social listening is not available to buy directly — the sidebar entry leads to an upgrade option and a book a demo link instead.
