Instagram Reels are a fun and creative way to share short videos with your friends and followers. You can use Reels to show off your talents, share your thoughts, or just have some fun.
First of all, we should clarify the differences between Posts and Reels.
Through their API they've separated video posts from Reels, Reels being the vertical videos that are the 9:16 ratio.
What this means is that all vertical videos should be uploaded in the Reels section in Planable, while square/landscape videos in the regular post section.
What's important to keep in mind is this:
Vertical videos go in the Reels section (9:16 ratio)
Landscape/square videos go in the post section (same place where you create the image posts) (ratio 16:9/1:1)
Here are some of the Reels upload requirements:
You can upload a reel with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 9:16.
Reels should have a minimum frame rate of 30 FPS (frames per second) and a minimum resolution of 720 pixels.
Reels can be up to 15 minutes long.
*Although Direct Publishing is available with original audio — due to API limitations, you can’t yet add trending music and directly publish the video with it.
Should you want to add custom audio, you have to set publishing via our mobile app instead which means you get a notification at the scheduled time, get redirected to Instagram where you can add the audio and other finishing touches and finally publish.
