Planable lets you pick a track while you plan the post, preview it with your team, and have it applied automatically when the post goes live.
Where you can add music
| Platform | Post types | Library | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Video and photo posts | TikTok's commercial music library (trending tracks cleared for business use) | TikTok Business account, publishing directly to the TikTok feed |
| Reels only | Trending music and trending original audio | Page connected through Facebook, Reel publishing directly |
Good to know: Music only works when Planable publishes the post itself. If a post or Reel is set to publish through the mobile app, music can't be picked, and a tooltip on the post explains why.
Add music to TikTok posts
- Open the TikTok post in the composer, the feed, or the post modal.
- Click Sound & music, then Select music. The library opens as a sidebar in the composer, or as a popover in the feed and the post modal.
- Browse by genre, or search by track or artist. Preview any track before adding it.
- Use the country selector to change which trending catalog is shown. It starts on the page's location, or the workspace timezone when the page has no location.
- Add the track.
Video posts: set the mix
Once a track is added to a video, two sliders control the mix. Music volume starts at 80 and Video volume starts at 20. The preview plays the mix on the video, so you can hear it before you schedule.
Photo posts: pick a track or let TikTok choose
Photo posts use the track as it is, with no volume sliders. Instead of picking a track, you can turn on Auto add music and let TikTok choose one at publish time. The post then shows Random sound instead of a track name.
Auto add music and a picked track can't be combined. Picking a track turns Auto add music off.
The selected track shows on the post in the feed and the post modal, and duplicating a TikTok post keeps the track and volumes. For everything else about TikTok publishing, see How to publish TikTok content.
Add audio to Instagram Reels
- Open the Reel.
- Click Add audio on the caption toolbar row, then Select audio.
- Choose a tab: Music for trending tracks, or Original audio for trending original sounds from other creators.
- Search, and preview music tracks on your video. For original sounds, click Listen on Instagram to hear them on Instagram.
- Pick the audio, then set the mix: Audio volume starts at 80 and Video volume starts at 50.
The selected audio shows on the Reel in the feed and the post modal. Both sliders go from 1 to 100, so neither the audio nor the video can be fully muted from Planable. Audio isn't available for feed posts, carousels or Stories. For more on Reels, see Instagram Reels.
How music is applied when you publish
Planable doesn't edit your video file. The chosen track and the two volume levels are saved on the post and sent to the platform when the post goes out, and the platform makes the final mix. The preview in Planable is a close guide, not an exact copy of the result.
The libraries in Planable are the trending catalogs each platform shares with apps, not the full in-app library. Favorites, saved sounds and your own sounds stay in the TikTok and Instagram apps, and the pickers say so. If you need one of those, set the post to publish through the Planable mobile app and add the sound in the native app instead.
Who can add or change music
- Teammates who can edit or publish in the workspace can add and change music.
- Anyone who can only view or approve, including clients, sees the selected track but can't open the library.
Troubleshooting
I can't see the Sound & music or Add audio button
- For TikTok, check that the page is a Business account.
- For Instagram, check that the page is connected through Facebook, and that the post is a Reel.
- Check that the post isn't set to publish through the mobile app.
I can't find a specific song
Planable only receives the trending catalog each platform shares with apps, so not every song from the app is available. On TikTok, switching the country or genre often surfaces more tracks. If TikTok doesn't serve the chosen country, the library shows the general catalog instead.
My Reel was published without the audio I picked
If Instagram can't attach the audio at publish time (for example, because the page lost its Facebook connection), the Reel still goes live with its original sound only, and no error is shown. Check the page connection first, then reconnect it through Facebook if needed.
My TikTok post failed because the track isn't available
TikTok rotates its commercial music library, so a track picked when the post was scheduled can be removed, or stop being offered in that region, before the post goes out. The post keeps showing the track name, but at publish time TikTok rejects it and Planable shows TikTok's error message on the post. Planable retries a few times with the same track, then marks the post as failed.
To fix it, open the post, remove the track or pick a different one in Sound & music, then publish again or reschedule.
💡 Pro tip: If you schedule TikTok posts far ahead, check that the track still appears in the library shortly before the publish date.
